Upper East Side Grand Foyer

New York, New York

The Grand Foyer of the historic Academy Mansion, a 26,000 square foot limestone and marble home built in 1921 and just steps aways from Central Park was the perfect canvas to create a living environment for the annual Holiday House benefiting breast cancer research.  As winter approached, Steves envisioned “A Winter Holiday Under the Northern Lights.”

The transformation of the two foyers went beyond what might normally be expected and, instead of a pass through to the main house, both foyers were reimagined into a Grand Living Room that entices the senses.  Formulating spaces that uniquely and seamlessly respect the elegance of the space while layering her design with a juxtaposition highlighting each of the featured artisan’s point of view, utilizing the functionality, while integrating each piece respectfully yet whimsically into her overall aesthetic. Winter was clearly on Steves’ mind as the light changes when entering Winter Solstice she intricately integrated the chill of winter with cool metals and glass, the light illuminating the blown glass sculptures and the warmth of the golds, bronzes and woods.
