DESIGN TAILORED TO THE PROJECT

No two projects begin in quite the same place. BJS-Assoc. tailors the scope of each engagement to the needs of the project, from private residences to select commercial and hospitality environments.

From renovations and new construction to furnishings, custom design, art and accessories, procurement, project coordination and the refinement of existing interiors, the scope of services is defined through initial conversations about the project, its objectives and the level of involvement required.

WHAT WE Do

RENOVATION & NEW CONSTRUCTION
Collaboration with clients, architects, contractors and trades on the many design decisions that shape a renovation or new residence.

CUSTOM DESIGN
Custom furnishings, cabinetry, millwork and other elements developed when the project calls for something specific to the space or client.

FINISHING & EDITING
A focused approach for interiors that don't require a complete redesign but would benefit from a fresh perspective, new furnishings, art, accessories or thoughtful editing.

COMMERCIAL & HOSPITALITY
Select commercial and hospitality interiors approached with the same attention to experience, function, detail and visual identity as BJS-Assoc.'s residential work.

FULL-SERVICE INTERIOR DESIGN
Comprehensive design from initial concept through installation, with the scope tailored to the individual project.

FURNISHINGS, ART & ACCESSORIES
The selection and integration of furnishings, lighting, rugs, textiles, art and accessories—whether beginning anew or incorporating pieces a client already owns.

PROCUREMENT & PROJECT COORDINATION
Sourcing, purchasing and coordination of furnishings and design elements, including communication with vendors, workrooms and trades through delivery and installation.

THE APPROACH

DESIGN BEGINS WITH LISTENING

Every project develops differently, but the process begins in the same place: understanding the client, the space and how the two should come together.

LISTEN
We begin with conversation—how you live or work, what you respond to, what you already own and what you hope the project will become.

DEFINE
The scope, priorities and design objectives are established, creating a clear framework for the project.

DEVELOP
Architecture, furnishings, materials, color, lighting, art and custom elements are considered together as the design takes shape.

REFINE
Ideas are edited and developed through presentations, sourcing and collaboration until the individual elements form a cohesive whole.

EXECUTE
BJS-Assoc. coordinates with architects, contractors, vendors, workrooms and trades to carry the design through procurement, fabrication and installation.

COMPLETE
The final layer brings everything together—from furnishings and art to accessories and the details that make the interior feel personal and complete.

WORKING TOGETHER

TAILORED TO THE PROJECT

Every project is different, and the structure of each engagement reflects its scope, complexity and anticipated level of involvement.

BJS-Assoc. structures each engagement around the scope of the project, with design and project-management services defined at the outset. When furnishings, lighting, art, custom pieces and other goods are sourced and procured through the firm, purchasing is managed separately as part of the overall project.

Following an initial conversation and review of the project, BJS-Assoc. provides a Letter of Agreement outlining the scope of services, fee structure and terms of engagement, so expectations are clear before the design process begins.

For larger or evolving projects, the scope can be structured in phases as the work progresses.
